Welcome to the September 2022 Executive Leadership News

This month I would like to share the most beautiful insight from Jim Carrey.

"After knowing Eckhart Tolle for a while and studying the books, I woke up and suddenly got it. I understood suddenly how thought is just illusory, and that thought is responsible for most, if not all of the suffering we experience. And then I suddenly felt like I was looking at thoughts from another perspective, and I wondered, who is it that is aware that 'I' am thinking? And suddenly I was thrown into this expansive amazing feeling of freedom - from myself, from my problems. I saw that I am bigger than what I do, bigger than my body. I am everything and everyone. I am no longer a fragment of the universe. I am the universe." ~ Jim Carrey

What is the perfect LinkedIn & Social Media Headshot

How important is your headshot? Nailing that "just right" look seems harder and more crucial than ever at a time of record job changes and on-screen first impressions.

Some people chasing the ideal photo are paying $1,000 or more, fueling a cottage industry of headshot photographers who offer facial-expression coaching and promise to help even the most insecure subjects look and feel great. This is an extract from an article Callum Borchers wrote for the Wall St Journal which went into fine detail about the power of a great headshot and the price people are willing to pay.

The reality is that our Personal & Executive Brands extend beyond our resume, so it makes sense that we curate the entire package with the same theme. How we present ourselves is important in a world where instant impressions matter, including in our careers. As an executive having your branding tools aligned, relevant and current matters. This includes everything from a first-class resume to a complimentary and equally fantastic LinkedIn profile and a headshot. It easy to neglect to invest in our marketing materials beyond our clothing – particularly as you advance your career. We are all busy and it is something most find uncomfortable and challenging so we put it on the back burner. Your generic resume from 5-10 years ago, and your sparse LinkedIn profile with your lackluster picture may not be doing your career any favours. It may be time to do a Personal & Executive Brand Audit. Review where you are in your career and where you want to be in 2 years. Does your image, CV and LinkedIn profile and social media presence align? If you are not sure, research some people you admire in your space for some ideas. Or you may consider engage a Coach.

Why You Should Quit Trying to Manage Time

“You can’t control time; time management is a futile goal. The endless struggle to rein in time makes you anxious and worried that what you can accomplish won’t be good enough. The stress takes the joy out of your days. Why You Should Quit Trying to Manage Time (covisioning.com)

I came across this article and the heading caught my attention as it really goes against so much of what we are told at school and in our careers. We are forever looking at and celebrating time management programs, process improvement, life hacks and anything that can make us more efficient and productive! Why? This, article puts a whole new spin on time management and forces you to question your approach to work and in effect life.

While we are out of the pandemic intensity of the past 2 years, every day I work with clients and encounter friends and colleagues who are re-assessing their work and life. We are going through a time of profound change in our working lives. For those who are looking for more I highly recommend this article which is only a 4-minute read. Why You Should Quit Trying to Manage Time (covisioning.com)

“Your experience of being alive consists of nothing other than the sum of everything to which you pay attention. At the end of your life, looking back, whatever compelled your attention from moment to moment is simply what your life will have been.”

"I recently participated in the PQ Program facilitated by Kelly. I was really surprised by how much it gave me and how much it is still giving to me even after it has finished. I learned a lot about myself and others, how to deal with certain aspects of my personality that sabotage my ability to move forward on things. I highly recommend this course to anyone who is open to learning more about themselves." Nicole, Professional
