Welcome to Executive Career & Leadership News October 2023

The unemployment rate has fallen to 3.6% which indicates a positive sign for those job seeking. Across the board, employees are being called back into the office on a full-time office or hybrid working model which is having mixed reactions by many. Overall, the employment market remains steady with not a lot of movement occurring in senior level positions with most people choosing to stay put for the moment as they wait it out to see what the overall market does. For those looking or considering looking at changing roles, now is a good time.

Future of Jobs 2023 Report

Regardless of where you are at in your career, the Future of Jobs 2023 report is certainly worth having a look through to understand how quickly the job landscape is shifting and what this means for our careers and those younger generations coming through.

Considering Using AI to Support Your Job Search? Read on….

In this article ‘Five AI Tools To Help With Your Job Search’ Five AI Tools To Help With Your Job Search—Or With Helping You Quit (forbes.com) they offer a positive angle on AI and jobs. Suggesting that AI may be a channel to consider helping you in your job search. In this article they cover AI tech to help with cover letter writing through to job match scores and resignation letter writing.

I used ChatGPT to see what it came up with on the topic of ‘How AI can help Executives in their Career and Job Search’. What it came up with had some merit however from my experience and that of my clients AI is not yet as wonderful as it may make out for those job seeking particular at the senior and executive levels.

At this point it seems employers are gaining more of the AI benefit in their recruitment and selection process than typically job seekers. Though in speaking with my clients, the same frustrations remain around poorly written job ads with minimal information, lack of notification of job applications or unsuccessful candidate emails being sent, lack of phone calls being returned and so on. So, while we have the technology the communication (human) piece seems to have a long way to go to improve the job search experience.

Whilst no doubt I am coming from a biased position, when it comes to writing a compelling CV and LinkedIn profile, networking, and sourcing executive level roles, the process is still very people driven, and less AI driven. But there is expected to be a shift in the next 5 years.

3 Human Super Talents AI Will Not Replace
