Welcome to the Diversitas June 2021 Newsletter.

It is time to be big and bold - it is a job seekers market!

While Australia struggles through a yo-yo of lockdowns, one positive trend we are seeing is that companies are hiring again. We are currently in a ‘job seekers’ market which is pretty exciting. The market is also craving people with experience, not just young bright shinny things full of potential. Right now, the market wants and needs more mature skilled and experienced job seekers. If there was ever a great time to be looking at changing employers, jobs, taking on a more senior role or making a career transition now is it.

Traditionally when people hit midlife, it would be a time for re-assessing their work and their life and how they want the next stage to look. Currently, with the pandemic is seems all age groups are reflecting on who they are, what gives them a sense of purpose and how they want their worklife to play out. They are experiencing a greater sense of choice and control in their careers which is wonderful. All too often we can forget this as we get into the rut of working and blending into the organisation’s system, we are a part of. We can lose our sense of self, dreams, value, and purpose. It seems that the pandemic has awoken many disengaged employees from their work slumber and inspired them to work and live with more purpose. For those of you on the fence about where or not it is a good time to make career changes, I would say remain open to exploring opportunities.

The Triangle of Responding to Change & Stress! Where Do You Go First?

The past 1 ½ years have been stressful for most of us and you would be hard pressed to find people who would say otherwise. Living and working in such uncertainty and in such a fluid and reactive way is stressful for even the most ‘free flowing’ spontaneous personality types. I always find ‘The Response Scenario Triangle’ one of the most effective and useful models for understanding how we typically respond during times of stress, change or conflict. Take 5 minutes to think about how you typically respond when your stressed? How can you shift this if you are stuck in one mode or perhaps defaulting to an ineffective way of responding which is common when we are under stress. We go where we are most comfortable, not where it is the most helpful for us to be! Click to learn more about this strategy.

Three wonderful trends I am seeing in the market are:

1. Employers are wanting mature, skilled experienced candidates

2. Employees are feeling more empowered in their careers

3. Employees are starting to negotiate their salary packages

I am working with, hearing from, and reading about employees and job seekers who are backing themselves when it comes to their salary packages. They are no longer willing to take what has been offered when they know that they are not being paid their worth. If this sounds like you and you would like a great resource to help you prepare for salary package negotiation please email kelly@diversitas.com.au if you would like a free copy of my 55 page salary negotiation guide for busy people

In the past month I am hearing so many fantastic stories from my current and past clients about transitioning into C-Suite roles, negotiating pay increases, securing dream roles, getting interviews, embarking on study and more. Thank you all for sharing these inspiring stories. (names have been changed)

“Just wanted to let you know - at last I’ve secured that permanent Marketing Manager role I was looking for. I wanted to say thanks to you. For believing in me and helping me believe in myself. I could never have got to a CV I was proud of and a LinkedIn profile that reflected what I stand for if it hadn’t been for your help. Despite spending over 6 months with the out-placement service it wasn’t until you held me to account that I really had a breakthrough with both CV and LinkedIn.” Karen, Marketing Manager

“Thanks so much for your help in preparing for the position. I have received an offer and am really excited by this opportunity. I'll be starting in August. Thanks again for your help”. Michelle, Researcher
